How is it that 'Sophia' has topped the charts as the 'Number One Most Popular Name for Baby Girls of 2008', while Sophie, which is a similar, yet clearly better name all-around remains number one on the list of 'Cute Things to Name Your Toy Poodle'.
Newsflash, world: Sophie is not a poodle name!
To try to make myself feel better, I googled 'People Named Sophie', and it turns out that there is actually a Wikipedia page donated to the cause.

Unfortunately, said list did nothing for my ego, as I have never heard of any of those supposedly famous Sophies before. But! Aiding my 'Sophie is NOT a poodle name' crusade is none other than Gene Simmons. As in, Gene Simmons of KISS. As in, the Lord of Rock.
And here's the kicker, ladies and gentlemen: The Lord of Rock named his daughter nothing other than Sophie. Therefore, by all laws of logic, all of the women out there that associate 'Sophie' with a small, fluffy, yapping dog are all blasphemers. |
